Improvements Made to the Polished Moxie Blog

I know it's been a few days since posting on my blog, but I've been busy making some changes to my blog that I will now share with you.  The changes aren't really something you would notice right off, but they are ones that I think make the structure of my blog better.  I'm slowly learning some XHTML so that I can make improvements to my blog beyond what Blogger gives me for options.  I have now made the following improvements to my blog:

  • When clicking on a picture, it now opens enlarged in a new tab so that the blog posting remains open in its original tab.  I like this better than having to go back a page after enlarging a picture.  I altered the html code for each picture to include target="_blank" to achieve this effect.
  • When clicking on a link, it now opens in a new tab so that the blog posting remains open in its original tab.  I used the same target tag in the html code for each link.
  • I added a tag to each picture that is invisible unless your browser is set up not to open pictures.  In this case a description of the picture is displayed instead of the picture itself.  I altered the html code for each picture to include alt="my picture description" to achieve this effect.
  • I added a note to each picture that displays when your mouse rolls over the picture.  The note states that you can click on the picture to enlarge it in a new tab.  I altered the html code for each picture to include title="my note" to achieve this effect.
  • I've added a copyright at the bottom of each posting.
  • I've set up the picture of my three helpers in the right hand column to link to the "About Me" tab.
  • I've added a "Gallery of My Work" tab.  This gallery includes a picture of each of my works labeled with a title and technique.  The pictures have all of the properties listed above and enlarge in a new tab when clicked.  The note displayed when the mouse rolls over the picture also lets you know that if you select the title of the project, the blog post covering that particular project opens in a new tab.  In the future I plan on adding posts on each of the techniques I've used to create my projects and linking them from my gallery.
  • Changed my blog archive to a pull down menu to clean up the space on the right hand column.
These are the changes that I have completed over the past few days.  Because I'm only two months into my blog, I went back and updated each post with these improvements.  I plan on making additional changes in the future as I become more educated in XHTML and the Blogger platform.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you come back soon!
