Shimmering Witch Halloween Card

I love cards that utilize a play on words.  At Halloween time there are lots of phrases that offer that little twist and often with a tinge of humor.  I came across the phrase "Witching you a happy Halloween" and knew I could do something bright and cheerful with it.  Looking through my stamp collection, I stumbled across the perfect stamp of a witch mixing her brew.  I also found a very bright and colorful Halloween cardstock that had a little sparkle to it.  Adding bright yellow and lavender to the mix resulted in a vibrant shimmering witch Halloween card.

Speaking of witches, how's this for a picture of a cranky pants?

I know the picture is a little blurry, but I jumped when she jumped.  Gracie obviously was not in the mood for a portrait sitting!  It's times like this that I call her "Grumpy Grace".

The Making of a Shimmering Witch Halloween Card

Card Front

Picture of the front of the Halloween card

This card is all cardstock, including the Halloween print.  I created the card base by cutting and scoring bright yellow cardstock.  The yellow plays off all of the colors in the Halloween themed cardstock that I selected for the card.  I made two separate panels (front and inside) and affixed them to the card base when they were completed.

The front panel consisted of layered lavender cardstock and the Halloween cardstock.  A bright yellow grosgrain ribbon was placed along the bottom portion of the panel.  I couldn't believe that I had ribbon the exact color of the base card!
The witch image was stamped on white cardstock and hand colored using Prismacolor pencils and gamsol.  I sponged in the background with a combination of inks using the Halloween cardstock to pull it all together.  Shimmer paints were brushed onto the background to give it a little sparkle since the Halloween cardstock also had a little sparkle on its Halloween images.  The image was matted on lavender and bright yellow cardstocks.  I punched the lower edge of the yellow cardstock to resemble dripping liquid and printed the sentiment "What's Brewing?" on it below the image.  A black cat silhouette punched from black cardstock is affixed to the corner of the image and is popped up with silicone glue to add dimension.  The matted image is attached to the panel and a bright yellow bow completes the effect.  This panel is affixed to the front of the base card.

As you can see, the bow is about the only dimension on this cardThe cat is popped up slightly, but it is hard to see in the above picture.

Closer Look at Image

You see the cat better in the close up, but I had a hard time trying to get the sparkle on the image and Halloween cardstock to show.  You can see both when you move the card in the light.

Card Inside

For the inside panel, "Witching You a Happy Halloween!" is printed on white cardstock matted with lavender cardstock.  It is embellished with a strip of the Halloween cardstock overlaying a punched yellow dripping liquid border.  A black cat punched from cardstock is popped up from the surface as a final touch.  The completed panel is affixed to the inside of the card base.

My logo is printed on the back of the card.

I also made an envelope from heavy cover stock.  The same colors used on the card are sponged on the lower left corner of the envelope and a bubbling cauldron is stamped on top.  Sealer is sprayed lightly over the image to protect it during transit in the postal system.
