Bright Hearts and Ovals Card

It's been so cold and gloomy around here that I wanted to create some bright and cheerful cards to improve my mood.  Because of my short spurts of crafting time between eating, sleeping, and shoveling snow, my first card is a very simple card. For some reason I am drawn to vibrant colors and I made my hearts and ovals card using very vivid colors.  I played off of a cheerful piece of striped scrap paper that drew my attention when going through my scrap bin.  Just looking at the paper lifted my spirits.  I used a bright orange and yellow (and I mean BRIGHT) color scheme and created a card that could be used as an unconventional valentine's card or as a cheerful note card.  I decided to leave the inside blank so that a personal note could be composed for the recipient.  Due to my limited time at the moment, I challenged myself to make my bright hearts and ovals card without any stamping and the fun began.

I told you the colors were bright!  This card is scored at the top so that it opens from the bottom.  I love this color combination and I think the striped paper pulls it all together.

The scalloped hearts were created from orange cardstock using Nestabilities run through my Cuttlebug.  I attached the hearts to ovals punched out of yellow cardstock and set them aside.  Next I affixed a strip of the striped paper to yellow cardstock that I had border punched.  This panel was adhered to the card front as a background for the hearts and ovals.  I attached the hearts and ovals offset over the striped paper using silicone to add dimension.  This completed the front of the card.

The above pictures show the ovals slightly popped from the card surface for added dimension and interest.  You also get a glimpse of the inside panel.

Card Inside

A simple inside panel of white cardstock decorated with a strip of the striped paper and an orange heart completes the card.  I affixed the heart with silicone to slightly pop it from the surface and add an element of interest.

The envelope I made to compliment the card is also very simple in its decor.  I sponged an orange heart on a yellow oval using punched cardstock for the stencils. I lightly sprayed the sponged image with sealer to protect it while traveling through the mail system.

By the time I finished this card my snow fatigue had diminished and I was in a much better frame of mind.  I just love bright and cheerful colors!  This was a nice reprieve from shoveling...now back to my snow piles.
