You Float My Boat Sailboat Card & Footprints in the Snow

I discovered another boat by Dover royalty-free designs that I thought would make an interesting image for a card.  This image is of a sailboat and I found it in a Dover Nautical Designs book.  I decided to use a color scheme in blues with a pop of orange.  It's a somewhat whimsical card with its exaggerated colorful waves and the sailboat in an oval frame.  The sentiment is a playful "You float my boat".

Off track for a second...we received another coating of snow yesterday.  It covered up the "dirty" snow and left a powder layer on top of the compacted snow depth.  When I looked out of the window this morning I saw hundreds of bird and critter prints in the fresh powder.  We haven't seen footprints for quite some time because the snow pack was so hard, but the new snow is soft in fluffy.  Here are a couple of pictures showing some of the footprints.  Look at the hundreds that are all around the bird feeding area!

The Making of My "You Float My Boat" Sailboat Card

I used white cardstock to create the card base and layered it with a panel of blue cardstock.  Using the blue panel as the background I cut my waves out of blue and orange cardstock and layered them over a streaked blue paper that represents the sky.  I printed "You Float My Boat" on the blue wave.

As the focal point for the card I used the Dover royalty-free sailboat design and printed it on an oval of white cardstock.  I colored the sailboat scene using gamsol and colored pencils.  I matted the colored image with blue cardstock and popped it from the surface of the card.

You can see from the picture above that the matted image is popped from the surface of the card to add some dimension.

Card Inside

For the inside of the card I used a panel of white cardstock decorated along its bottom with a wave cut from blue cardstock.  I matted the white cardstock with blue cardstock and attached it to the card.

I created a coordinating envelope from heavy cover stock.  Before constructing the envelope I printed the sailboat scene on the cover stock.  After constructing the envelope I colored the sailboat using colored pencils and gamsol.  To complete the envelope I sprayed the image with sealer to protect it in the mail.

I really like this card and its bright colors.
