Dove and Cross Easter Card on a Cold Winter's Night

It was gray and blustery here today and I kept thinking of spring.  To me Easter really says springtime so I thought I would share an Easter card today.  Easter was always a spiritual and fun time for me when I was growing up.  The Easter card I'm sharing today is on the spiritual side, but elegant with its simple greeting.  I've selected a cross and dove for the focus of the card and added interest with texture, dimensional elements, and shapes.  The majority of this Easter card I created using dies and punches.  I based the colors of my Easter card on a ribbon that I had and decided to incorporate into the card.

Before sharing the details of my card I want to show you some pictures I captured of the night sky.  I'm always looking to take pictures to use in my crafts and digital products.  One night this winter I looked out my window and this is the view that greeted me.

 

 

I thought these images were beautiful and have great potential in my art.  They will also serve as inspiration for some of my card projects.

Card Front

You can see the part that the ribbon played in my Easter card.  The blue and tan base colors with a splash of green from the branches.  I also used the diamond shapes in the ribbon on the punched border and texture of the cross.

I created the card base from blue cardstock and layered it with tan cardstock punched on its double overlapping border.  For the focal point of the card I cut a cross out of blue cardstock and used a texture plate run through my Cuttlebug to emboss the cross with its diamond pattern.  I sponged beige ink over the textured cross to add depth and affixed punched greens and a punched dove.  The dove is popped from the surface of the cross and its wing is popped from its body.  Using Nestabilities in my Cuttlebug I cut and embossed a blue backdrop for my embellished cross.
 
After affixing the cross panel to the tan front panel I attached the ribbon and bow.  I printed "He Has Risen" in blue ink on tan cardstock and cut it out using my Nestabilities.  This sentiment was matted with blue and popped off the surface of the card for further dimension.

These angle views give you a better perspective of the various dimensional elements on the card.


Inside Card

 

For the inside card panel I printed "Happy Easter" in blue ink on tan cardstock punched along the lower border.  I decorated it with a piece of ribbon embellished with punched greens and a popped dimensional dove.

I constructed a coordinating envelope from heavy cover stock and decorated the lower left corner.  I sponged blue inks as a background to greenery and a white dove.  The embellishments were sprayed with sealer to protect them in the mail.
