You Make My World Happy Card and Backyard Wildlife

Here's a card that expresses how I'm feeling about the sun these days.  For the last few days the temperature outside has been above 32 degrees and we're starting to get some melting taking place.  Yeah!  This makes my world much happier, even though now we're shoveling more paths for the water to flow.  But hey, the melting is good.  To celebrate I thought I'd share a sunny and happy card with you.  I call it "You make my world happy" card because of the imagery and sentiment.  I designed the card with a sun smiling down on the world and used an earthy color palette.

I'm not the only one enjoying the respite from the snow.  Take a look at these pictures.

Picture of a squirrel digging in a snow bank

It's a squirrel digging in a snow bank by my bird feeders.  When we shoveled out the bird area after each snow, some of the seeds on the ground got tossed into the snow piles.  The squirrel is digging through the snow layers to get to some of those seeds.  His world is happy because he can now break through the snow to dig for extra food.

Okay, now to my card.

The Making of My "You Make My World Happy" Card

Card Statistics

Card Front

I created the card base from seafoam green cardstock and layered the lower half with mint green cardstock.  In the upper left quadrant of the card I printed the sentiment "You make my world happy" and layered the upper right quadrant with a patterned kraft paper.  I added a kraft colored decorative ribbon across the center of the card to cover the interface of the layered components.

For the focal point of the card I stamped a revolving earth on white cardstock and colored it using gamsol and colored pencils.  I sponged a brown ink around the earth to add depth and matted the image on layers of seafoam green and kraft cardstocks.  I affixed this image panel to the card front.  As a finishing touch I popped a smiling sun on the corner of the image to add dimension.  I stamped this sun on white cardstock, colored it using gamsol and colored pencils and then fussy cut it out.

From the side view you can see how the sun has added some dimension to the face of the card.

Card Inside

I created a simple inside panel from kraft cardstock and placed a band of the patterned kraft paper along the bottom.  As a finishing touch I popped another smiling sun on the decorative band.  A side view shows the dimension added by the sun.

The envelope I designed from heavy cover stock to compliment the card is also very simple.  I stamped a smiling sun in the lower left corner and colored it.  As is my practice, I sprayed the image with sealer to protect it in the mail.

Every time I see the sun on this card I smile.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the sun outside keeps showing its face so that the snow continues to melt.
