Handmade Sleeping Teddy Bear Baby Card & Teaching Bad Habits

Sweet Teddy on My Sleeping Teddy Bear Baby Card
Today I'm sharing a whimsical handmade baby card in light blue, mint green, yellow and white. It features a stamped teddy bear sleeping in the curve of a crescent moon that has been colored using gamsol and colored pencils.  I've adorned it with several yellow stars. There is no sentiment on the outside of this baby card, however I have selected a nice message for new parents and placed it on the inside card panel.  Again, another card with a teddy bear image, but I did use a different teddy bear stamp this time.  You can see my other teddy bear cards if you check out these earlier posts: Lace Embellished Teddy Bear Card, I Love You Teddy Bear Card in Cream, I Love You Teddy Bear Card in Teal, I Love You Teddy Bear Card in Shades of Pink, and Sparkling Roses and Teddy Bear Birthday Card

Now, since the topic of this post is a baby card, I thought I would share a few pictures of a Mother teaching her babies bad habits.  I caught them in the act and just had to grab a few pictures.  There is a little reflection in the pictures because I captured these images through a window.

Mama deer is showing her three babies how yummy rose of sharon bushes taste.  Shame on her...and in my garden too!  No wonder today we only have blossoms on the upper third of this bush.  I see this little family in my yard quite often and the babies are growing like weeds.  I wonder how much of that growth has to do with my rose of sharons!

Oh well, my husband keeps reminding me: "You wanted wildlife...You got wildlife!"

To begin this handmade baby card I first selected the plaid scrapbook paper and based my color scheme around it.  I scored white cardstock to make the card base for my teddy bear baby card and layered it with light blue cardstock.

I created a decorative background panel from the plaid paper and matted it on mint green cardstock. I set this panel aside while I made my image panel.

For the image panel I stamped my teddy bear on white cardstock and colored him using the gamsol and colored pencils technique.  Once I completed coloring him I fussy cut him out and popped him off the surface of a light blue cardstock panel.  I matted this panel with mint green cardstock to complete my image panel.  I positioned the background panel and image panel on the card base and affixed them in place.  I popped the teddy bear image panel off the surface of the card with silicone adhesive to add dimension.

As a finishing touch I popped three stars punched from yellow cardstock along the left edge of the background panel and popped a larger star on the corner of my teddy bear image panel.  All four stars were affixed with silicone glue to add dimension to the card face.

The pictures above give you an idea as to the dimensional elements on the face of my card.  The fussy cut teddy bear is popped from the image panel and the image panel is popped from the surface of the card.  All four stars are popped from the surface.

I created the inside card panel by printing my message on white cardstock: "May your new baby fill your life with happiness, joy and lots of laughter."  I matted the message panel with light blue cardstock and decorated it with a strip of the plaid paper used on the front of the card.  To complete my inside panel I popped a teddy bear punched from yellow cardstock in the lower right corner.  I affixed this completed panel to my card base.

Here's a picture of the inside of my teddy bear baby card set at an angle so you can see the dimension the silicone glue gives to the yellow teddy bear.

I also constructed a handmade envelope from heavy cover stock to compliment my sleeping teddy bear baby card.  To decorate it I affixed a teddy bear punched from the plaid paper in the lower left corner.

I like the way this card turned out, however, I did notice that all of my baby cards have a blue theme.  I need to add some pink and yellow themes to my collection.  You can take a gander at my other baby cards at these posts: Stork in Whimsical Sky Baby Card and Whimsical Stork Baby Card.

  1. Your baby card and envelope are adorable! You have created a beautiful image with colored pencils. OMG! Deer snacking on your Rose of Sharon. I thought they only looked for food during the winter months. Bad deer!
